After a patient has a pacemaker implanted, follow-up visits are required. Pacemakers are usually monitored via the telephone every one to two months with a health care professional. The patient takes home a transmission device that allows the pacemaker to be analyzed by the pacemaker clinic. A complete follow-up visit is done in the Newton Medical Center Pacemaker Clinic, part of the Charles L. Tice Heart Center for Diagnostic Services, or in the physician's office once or twice per year. The complete follow-up visit takes approximately 30 minutes. Our cardiologists use this information to ensure that pacemakers are functioning at their optimal level, and as an indicator for when the pacemaker battery is low or needs replacement.
If additional cardiac services are necessary, patients have full access to Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Morristown Medical Center or Overlook Medical Center.
