The Healthy Aging Program at Atlantic Health System suggests the following helpful resources to help seniors find social service programs so they can maintain their independence and quality of life:
Alzheimer’s Adult Day Services Program
This NJ program partially subsidizes the out-of-pocket cost of adult day care services for persons with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Applicants must meet eligibility criteria and receive services at a participating adult day provider.
Global Options for Long-Term Care
Provides support for seniors who meet the income, asset and nursing facility level of care requirements established by Medicaid
Hearing Aid Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (HAAAD)
Provides a $100 reimbursement towards the cost of a hearing aid for seniors or disabled individuals who participate in PAAD or meet PAAD income guidelines
Jersey Assistance for Community Caregiving (JACC)
A cost sharing program of home-based services for nursing home eligible seniors who are not eligible for Medicaid or Medicaid Waiver services
Helps with the cost of gas and/or electric utilities for PAAD or Medicaid beneficiaries
Lifeline, Link Up and Toll Limitation Services (TLS)
Lifeline is a government program that offers qualified low income households a discount on their monthly local landline telephone bill and may pay for initial service connection costs; must participate in either Medicaid, PAAD, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to qualify.
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Universal Service Fund (USF)
Helps eligible, low-income families and individuals meet home heating and medically necessary cooling costs; USF offers assistance with gas and electric bills
New Jersey SHARES
Provides temporary assistance to individuals and families who need help with paying their energy bills and do not qualify for other energy programs
New Jersey Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (NJ SNAP)
NJ SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) enables eligible individuals and families to purchase food through a monthly financial benefit; benefit amount depends on size of household, income and resources.
NJ Reduced-Fee License for Fishing and Hunting
NJ residents 65 and older are eligible for reduced fee fishing and hunting licenses.
NJ Transit Reduced-Fare Program
NJ Transit offers discounted rates for seniors 62 and older, and for those with disabilities.
Non-Driver State Photo ID
For those who do not have a driver’s license, the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission provides a non-driver photo ID that can be obtained at any motor vehicle agency.
Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD) and Senior Gold Resource Center
PAAD provides assistance with the payment of prescriptions to people 65 years of age or older or disabled individuals who meet income guidelines; Senior Gold assists those whose income exceeds PAAD limits
Photo Identification (ID)
A photo ID is required for many activities ranging from medical care to travel. For those who do not have a driver’s license, there are several options for obtaining a legal, photo ID.
Property Tax Reimbursement Program (Senior Freeze)
Reimburses eligible senior citizens and disabled persons for property tax increases
Senior Citizen/Disabled Property Deduction
Property owners age 65 or older, or disabled with limited resources, may be eligible for a $250 annual property tax deduction.

Senior Citizen Discount Program for E-ZPass
E-ZPass offers seniors age 65 or older a 10 percent discount on tolls on the Garden State Parkway and NJ Turnpike during weekday off-peak hours and weekends.
Senior Citizen Pass
NJ Residents age 62 or older are entitled to a discount which allows free entry and parking at any park, forest or historic site administered by the NJ Division of Parks & Forestry.

Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP)
The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides qualified seniors $20 in vouchers to use towards the purchase of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs at local farmers’ markets. Program operates from June 1 to November 30 every year.
Special Automobile Insurance Policy (SAIP)
Helps with limited automobile insurance coverage available to some Medicaid beneficiaries, as well as offering a medical coverage-only policy for $365 a year
Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB and SLMB Q1-1)
These programs pay partial or full Medicare Part B premiums for eligible low-income NJ residents who are not financially eligible for the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program under NJ Medicaid.
Statewide Respite Care Program
Offers in-home companions or home health aides, medical or social adult day care, camperships, private duty nursing services, or a short-term stay in a nursing facility
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
SSI is a Federal income supplement program designed to help aged, blind and disabled people who have little or no income by providing cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing and shelter.
Veterans Aid & Attendance and Housebound Pension
This VA pension program offers qualified veterans and/or surviving spouses an additional monthly cash benefit to offset the out-of-pocket cost of home care, assisted living or nursing home care.
Weatherization Assistance Program
The NJ Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) provides income-qualified residents with services that reduce household energy use and costs by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. The program then will assist with tasks such as installing insulation, weather stripping, wrapping hot water tanks, and repairing or replacing heating systems.
