Geropsychiatric Services
Over 10 percent of elderly adults suffer from depression. Geropsychiatric inpatient services are designed to address the specific difficulties older adults face and experience, including higher incidences of depression, isolation and dependence on other family members. Using specialized treatment services, our psychiatrists, nurses and social workers strive to improve health and restore quality of life. A wing of the inpatient unit at Overlook Medical Center has been specially designed to accommodate the physical needs of our geriatric patients.
Our physicians evaluate elderly adults to determine if they are suffering from psychosis, depression, dementia, anxiety, delirium and other cognitive deficits or mood disturbances. Family members are included in evaluations to determine if the patient is at risk for injury as a result of their immediate surroundings.
