The Digestive Center at Overlook Medical Center is equipped to help ease the symptoms of patients with gastrointestinal tract disorders. We offer a variety of diagnostic tests and minimally invasive procedures, including:
- 48-hour Bravo pH study – measures the frequency and duration of acid entering the esophagus to evaluate heartburn and determine if gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is the underlying cause of symptoms
- Anal manometry – tests the strength of the muscles that control bowel movements
- Anorectal ultrasound – assists in the evaluation of structural abnormalities and growths in the anus and rectum
- Biofeedback – re-educates the pelvic floor muscles through exercise
- Electromyography (EMG) – evaluates impaired control over bowel movements or problems with proper evacuation
- Esophageal manometry or motility study – assesses the pressure of muscle contractions in the lower esophagus
- Pudendal nerve testing – measures the delay between an electrical impulse and muscle contraction
- Small bowel capsule endoscopy – examines the entire small intestine to determine the cause of recurrent symptoms, such as anemia, bleeding or abdominal pain
