This massage technique addresses deep muscle and fascia layers that are often the root cause of stress and pain. Tight muscles place stress on vascular tissue, interfering with circulation. By releasing the strain of tight muscle and connective tissue, practitioners help improve nutrient distribution and detoxification, while reducing inflammation. Deep tissue massage is usually performed as a local treatment, but may be integrated with other massage modalities. The therapist and client determine whether a local treatment is desired, or if a treatment integrated into a full-body session is preferred.
