Oriental Medicine is an example of a whole medical system. According to Chinese medical theory, the body's health depends on the proper amount of energy or qi in the body. Qi is concentrated in longitudinal lines called meridians along the length of the body. If the flow of energy is insufficient, excessive, sluggish, or turbulent, disease and dysfunction will follow. Reestablishment of proper energy flow is the goal of most Oriental medicine treatments.
