Overlook Medical Center: The Patient Experience
Mommy and son could not have made it without you. You made the experience a wonderful one.
Overlook Hospital maternity patient
The birth of a baby is an exciting time for mothers and their birth partners, and the staff at Overlook Medical Center wants to make it as comfortable as possible for both of you.
Complimentary snacks are available in both Labor and Delivery and the Mother Baby Unit. You'll find juice, soda, crackers, cookies, cereal, coffee and tea. A morning breakfast cart offers muffins, bagels and coffee. The cafeteria on the fourth floor is open from 6:30 to 10:30am, 11:00am to 2:30pm and 4:30 to 7:00pm every day. Donna's Café, located in the lobby, is open from 6:30am to 8:30pm Monday through Friday and 9:00am to 5:00pm on weekends. Vending machines are located across from the elevators on the sixth floor, as well as on the fourth floor by the cafeteria.
Guest trays can be ordered for partners for a minimal charge. Please ask your nurse for guest tray information. You will also be treated to a gourmet meal to celebrate your new arrival. The menu is available in your room or you can obtain it from our dietary services.
Pull-out beds are available in private rooms for partners who wish to spend the night. Semi-private rooms do not have this option. Please wear appropriate attire at all times.
Visitors are welcome any time at Overlook Medical Center. Your partner or support person is not considered a visitor – they may stay with the mother at all times. Children are welcome, but please ask family and friends to keep sick children at home to prevent the spread of infection. All visitors need to sign in at the nurses’ station. If the mother had a cesarean section, children are not allowed in the recovery room. If anyone has been ill, please ask him or her to refrain from visiting. Hand washing is a must for everyone.
Mothers benefit the most when there is quiet time for them to rest and feed their babies. The unit has a quiet time from 1:00 to 2:30pm. We encourage you to use this time to bond, rest and feed your baby. We would like you to have a wonderful birth experience. If there are people you’d like to be a part of this experience, please let us know. Likewise, if there are people you do not want to be part of this experience, let us know.
