Treatment Options

Treatment for spine, neck and back pain can include rehabilitation, medication and/or surgery. Atlantic Orthopedic Institute's spine program at Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center takes the most conservative, least-invasive approach to care and offer treatments that will achieve the best and longest-lasting results.

At our medical centers, you’ll receive an individualized, patient-centered treatment plan developed using clinically proven evaluation methods that help identify the cause of your pain. At each step in the care process, we take the time to explain the cause of your condition and available treatment options and allow you to participate in choosing your course of treatment.

Our neuroscience and orthopedic specialists perform various spinal surgeries and minimally invasive procedures to correct spine, neck and back conditions, including:

  • Chronic low back pain
  • Congenital and complex spinal abnormalities and deformities
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Failed back surgery
  • Herniated discs
  • Laminectomies
  • Neck pain
  • Nerve root compression
  • Osteoporotic compression fractures
  • Sciatica
  • Scoliosis
  • Spinal fractures
  • Spinal fusions
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Tumors and metastic diseases or infections

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center use the latest imaging and surgical navigation systems to improve outcomes for patients who need spine surgery. Minimally invasive spine (MIS) surgical techniques, such as the O-arm® Intra-operative Imaging System and the StealthStation® Surgical Navigation System, give surgeons the ability to visualize and track in real-time the position of their surgical instruments. 3D navigation and more flexible surgical instruments help surgeons avoid touching sensitive areas such as the spinal cord. These surgical techniques improve safety and reduce surgical time by limiting blood loss and muscle and tissue damage that sometimes result from surgery. Helping our patients recover faster so that they can return to their daily routines is our goal.

If surgery is the best course of action, you can be confident that our board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeons are experienced in the most current surgical techniques. In fact, our spine program has performed more spine surgeries than any other hospital in New Jersey, and both Morristown and Overlook medical centers have dedicated inpatient spine units with specially-trained nurses. When surgery can be avoided, we use a combination of therapies, including medication, physical therapy, rehabilitation, integrative medicine and interventional pain management. Atlantic Rehabilitation, Atlantic Sports Health Physical Therapy, and Overlook Medical Center’s outpatient rehabilitation services department offer physical and occupational therapy services for patients with spine, neck and back pain. Additional treatment options are available at Overlook Medical Center’s Pain Management Center.
