Overlook Medical Center: The Patient Experience
At Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute, our stroke rehabilitation services are designed to help patients return to a healthy, safe and productive life. We have been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for more than 20 years and were one of the first facilities in New Jersey to be awarded a specialty certification for our Stroke Specialty Program. This recognition by CARF is the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to facilities specializing in stroke rehabilitation. This award is based upon a rigorous set of standards that evaluates the quality of care provided to stroke patients.
Our multidisciplinary team includes a clinical director and physiatrist with specialization in stroke rehabilitation, a rehabilitation nurse practitioner, a certified rehabilitation registered nurse, a rehabilitation psychologist, highly-trained therapists and social workers. We provide goal-oriented, individualized treatments that utilize a variety of services, including physical, occupational, speech and recreation therapies; speech-language and swallowing therapies; integrative medicine; innovative technology; and an education program.
Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute uses ground-breaking technology for stroke rehabilitation, such as:
Effective integrative medicine techniques enhance the overall stroke rehabilitation program at Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute. In fact, through a research study conducted in collaboration with Atlantic Health System's Integrative Medicine Department, we have now proven that Qi Gong is an effective technique for reducing stress and increasing stroke patients' functional levels. Other integrative medicine techniques and services offered by Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute include massage therapy, aromatherapy, art therapy, polarity, Jin Shin Jyutsu, meditation, hypnotherapy and chair yoga.
Educating patients and their families about their diagnosis helps speed rehabilitation and prevent future injuries and illnesses.
Our stroke rehabilitation education program, based in the Monsignor John F. Corr Stroke and Neuro Education Treatment and Wellness Center, was designed by our former stroke patients and their families. Participants receive comprehensive educational materials, including the Stroke Survivor’s Handbook and detailed information on the recovery environment and the role of health care professionals. An overview of post-rehabilitation services and life after treatment is also covered.
Following completion of our program, care managers encourage our stroke patients and their families to take advantage of Atlantic Health System’s other post-rehabilitation services, such as:
