Physical therapy can play a key role in the treatment of pelvic floor disorders and urinary incontinence. At Overlook Medical Center’s Physical Therapy Department, women’s health physical therapists are specially trained to evaluate and treat disorders of the bladder, vulvodynia, vaginisimus,
, levator ani syndrome,
low back pain
, sacroiliac joint pain, coccyx pain, and groin and pelvic pain.
In a safe and private area, we provide one-on-one pelvic floor disorder and
treatment sessions that begin with determining your strength, flexibility, and tone of pelvic floor, abdominal, back and hip muscles. Our therapists teach Kegel exercises, and posture and muscle relaxation exercises, and educate how to manage daily activities and bowel and bladder urge control. Additional services include deep tissue massage and soft tissue mobilization, biofeedback, electrical stimulation and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, and heat and cold therapy.
