Lymphedema is a chronic condition that involves swelling of the limbs or other body parts and impacts physical and psychosocial health. It is often a side effect of treatments for breast, prostate and pelvic area cancers, as well as lymphoma and melanoma.
Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center offers complete decongestive therapy, the most effective treatment for lymphedema available. Provided by specially-trained, certified occupational and physical therapists, the therapy includes skin and nail care, manual lymph drainage, compression bandaging, home exercise programs, and patient education to maximize mobility, function and independence. Specially-trained and certified physical therapists work closely with every patient to customize an appropriate treatment plan for each patient.
