Medical Director, Atlantic Post-Acute Quality and Outcomes
Mark Calderon, MD, strives to achieve Atlantic Health System’s 2022 strategic goals in population health by improving clinical outcomes for individuals across communities. As medical director for post-acute care services, he provides clinical leadership to improve clinical integration, quality and patient outcomes between Atlantic Health System hospitals and their high-performing network of skilled nursing facility partners.
Provider engagement is foremost among the many strategies Dr. Calderon uses to improve the health of populations. Through education, analytics, performance improvement incentives and one-on-one interaction, he offers health care providers actionable items that result in better clinical and financial outcomes.
Dr. Calderon is an experienced physician executive who served as Chief Medical Officer for Atlantic Health System’s accountable care organizations and has been a leader in multiple large, complex payer settings where he honed his skills in population health management. He found that success was dependent upon the appropriate use of health services, which could be achieved through coordinating care efficiently, effectively managing and preventing chronic diseases, and improving quality performance.
Dr. Calderon earned his doctorate in medicine from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine and completed his family practice residency at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey.
