Chief Medical Officer, Hackettstown Medical Center and Newton Medical Center
Paul Owens, MD supports the medical staff at Hackettstown and Newton medical centers in all areas of their day-to-day functions and is the liaison between the physicians and the executive office, creating a collaborative environment for both parties. He also works closely with hospitalists, case management, palliative care and quality outcomes and plays an integral role in performance improvement initiatives. Current projects include the journey to becoming a highly-reliable organization, the redesign of care coordination to reduce readmissions and telehealth in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Board-certified in both cardiology and internal medicine, Dr. Owens has been practicing cardiology in Sussex County since 1994 and is a member of Atlantic Medical Group. Previously, he served as a General Medical Officer in the United States Navy and performed a rotating pediatric internship at Bethesda National Naval Medical Center. He later completed his internal medicine residency at Morristown Memorial Hospital and his cardiology fellowship at the Baystate Medical Center/Western Campus of Tufts University.
Dr. Owens received his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from the College of the Holy Cross, his Doctor of Medicine degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and his Master of Medical Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University. He is also a fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians.
