Wait times represent the average estimated length of time from registration to being assigned a "first provider" (a doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant). Times displayed for Atlantic Health Systems are:

  • Reported as an average of wait times for the previous 2 hours of patients that have presented to the emergency department and have been seen by a provider
  • Refreshed at least every 15 minutes

Many circumstances can affect wait times - for example, patients arriving by ambulance or with life-threatening injuries or illnesses. Patients with severe conditions will be seen before those with less-serious problems or ailments. These times are provided for informational purposes only and cannot be guaranteed upon arrival.

Advanced Care Unit

Sometimes patients need more attention than can be provided in the emergency department, but their condition doesn’t warrant a hospital stay.

That’s why Newton Medical Center has an Advanced Care Unit (ACU) where adults and children are comfortably monitored and assessed to determine the best course of treatment.

Our 12-bed unit is designed with maximum visibility in mind to ensure quality of care and safety. Each room has a state-of-the-art telemonitoring system and staff is always just a few steps away.Family-friendly accommodations include banquette seating for parents to spend the night with their child, a relaxing atmosphere and kid-friendly meals. What’s more, all of our nurses are cross-trained to care for both adults and children, and a pediatric specialist is on hand.

Our ACU is open 24/7 and patients may be referred directly from our emergency department or from their primary care provider.

When other specialized pediatric services are necessary, Goryeb Children's Hospital can seamlessly provide care for our patients.
