MORRISTOWN, NJ – April 29, 2021 Atlantic Health System, a leading provider of health care in New Jersey, today announced that Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Newton Medical Center and Chilton Medical Center all earned the highest possible safety rating of ‘A’ by The Leapfrog Group in its Spring 2021 Hospital Safety Grades.

“After a year in which our teams had to quickly adapt to the challenges of COVID-19, our commitment to safety and quality has never been more apparent,” said Amy Perry, CEO Hospital Division, Senior Vice President, Integrated Care Delivery, Atlantic Health System.

“The recognition by Leapfrog demonstrates how this commitment has driven the excellent care that we provide.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns common letter grades – ‘A’ being the highest – to general hospitals across the country and is updated every spring and fall. It is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients in their care.

“An ‘A’ safety grade is an elite designation that your community should be proud of,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “The past year has been extraordinarily difficult for hospitals, but Atlantic Health System shows us it is possible to keep a laser focus on patients and their safety, no matter what it takes.”

Morristown Medical Center has maintained an ‘A’ Grade consistently since Fall 2015. Newton Medical Center has maintained an ‘A’ consistently since Spring 2019. Chilton Medical Center has maintained a consecutive ‘A’ since Fall 2018.

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
