Atlantic Health System offers advanced solutions for weight loss, including single anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S), a simplified version of the duodenal switch procedure (BPD-DS).

What is a SADI-S?

In a SADI-S procedure, bariatric surgeons reduce the stomach to under 30% of its original size, as in a sleeve gastrectomy. Next, they join the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine) with a lower portion of small intestine, bypassing 75-80% of it. However, in a SADI-S procedure, surgeons perform only one intestinal connection, compared to the BPD-DS where they perform two.

Benefits of SADI-S

The SADI-S procedure offers the following benefits for patients:

  • Reduced stomach size lowers hunger hormones, promoting a feeling of fullness.
  • Intestinal bypass leads to calorie malabsorption and hormonal changes that can improve insulin resistance.

Patient Commitment for SADI-S

Because this procedure results in the malabsorption of calories, patients must take more multivitamin and mineral supplements. Our weight loss team will ensure that you receive comprehensive guidance on post-procedure care, including the appropriate multivitamin and mineral supplements to support your health.

Because SADI-S both reduces stomach size and shortens the digestion process due to the small intestine bypass, it can be a good option for patients considering bariatric surgical revisions.
