TrueBeam Radiotherapy & Radiosurgery

TrueBeam Radiotherapy

Tumors that are close to vital organs in the body can prove difficult to remove surgically. The TrueBeam™ Radiotherapy System, available at Morristown Medical Center, Hackettstown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center allows us to precisely target these types of tumors with high doses of radiation while sparing most of the surrounding healthy tissue in the process.

Imaging Capabilities

TrueBeam is an advanced radiation therapy system that delivers concentrated beams of radiation to tumors in the body, which include 2D, 3D and dynamic 4D imaging. Each treatment consists of a beam of radiation (or collection of beams) generated by a linear accelerator.

TrueBeam allows pinpoint positioning and CT imaging through advanced imaging technology. The treatment beam can be targeted to a tumor from multiple angles to strike the target in a complete three-dimensional way. This helps ensure accurate patient positioning and enhances our ability to track patient movement. The goal is to deliver the lowest possible dose to the surrounding healthy tissue, while delivering the maximum dose to the tumor.

Morristown Medical Center’s TrueBeam also has iterative cone beam computed tomography (iCBCT), which improves soft tissue visualization and tumor targeting country to have an in-room CT, further cementing our role as a leader in image guided radiation therapy.

Radiation Treatments

A wide spectrum of advanced radiation treatments are available with TrueBeam, including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). These methods can be used to treat all kinds of cancer, especially those of the lung, liver, breast, prostate, brain, head and neck, abdomen, pelvis and spine. What’s more, TrueBeam is often faster, more accurate and more precise in localizing these tumors.

All our medical centers offer deep inspiration breath hold treatment (DIBHT) for left sided breast treatment using Align RT Technology. Align RT is an innovative technology which increases treatment accuracy and patient comfort during radiation treatment. Align RT uses a 3D camera system which increases accuracy of radiation to the left breast and using breath hold technique, spares the dose to the heart.

Align RT’s surface tracking allows all breast patients at Morristown and Hackettstown to receive tattoo less patient treatment.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery

We use precise, high-dose radiation with pinpoint accuracy to target metastatic brain tumors. Radiosurgery is a non-invasive and painless treatment in which robotic technology is used to deliver beams of highly focused radiation. . This form of focused radiation has improved the quality of life for many of our patients with brain tumors. These treatments are offered at our Overlook and Morristown campuses.
