Benefits of using a doula
A doula is a trained professional who provides non-medical care during labor, delivery and the immediate postpartum recovery period. Doulas provide emotional, physical and informational support throughout the entire childbirth experience.

Emotional support
Offers reassurance, encouragement and a calming presence throughout labor and delivery
Partner support
Guides and supports the birthing partner so they can be more involved and confident in their role
Postpartum guidance

Reduced anxiety
Helps manage fear and anxiety by offering knowledge, presence and calm reassurance
Tailored education
Shares evidence-based information specific to your birth plan
Doulas are not doctors and cannot provide medical advice. During an emergency, they will follow the direction of the health care providers in the room.
Clarifying the doula's role
Doulas primarily provide emotional support for a positive birth experience. Hospital doulas should not be confused with midwives as they do not make decisions about clinical care or perform any medical tasks such as temperature checks or fetal heart rate monitoring. They do not make house calls or provide any services before labor and delivery. Doulas are not replacements for birth partners.
