HIPEC at Atlantic Surgical Oncology

Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)

hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemo

With more than 15 years of experience, surgeons at Atlantic Surgical Oncology have performed hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in more than 160 select patients with advanced abdominal and gynecologic malignancies.

HIPEC is provided through Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center. Learn about how HIPEC can improve chemotherapy absorption in cancer cells, reduce side effects, and more >

HIPEC is performed at the time of tumor-removal surgery, also called cytoreduction or “debulking” surgery. After the surgeon removes the cancerous tumor(s), he bathes the abdominal cavity with a high dose of heated chemotherapy that kills any remaining cancerous cells. When combined with surgery, HIPEC has been clinically shown to improve the quality of life and extend the survival of patients with:

  • Colorectal cancer
  • Appendiceal cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Peritoneal mesothelioma
