Theranostics

Theranostics combines therapy and diagnostics to describe an advanced technology which allows physicians to first visualize a cancer with a radiotracer drug and then treat that cancer with a different form of the same drug.

How it works

Seeing and treating cancer

Theranostic drugs are called radiotracers because they carry a tiny amount of radiation that attaches only to cancer cells. The drug used to find cancer during tests like a PET‑CT scan is almost the same as the one used to treat it. The difference is the type of radiation: one helps your care team see the cancer, while the other helps destroy it.
