Learn more about hypoglossal nerve stimulation
Benefits
Alternative to CPAP
The device treats the root cause of sleep apnea by applying gentle stimulation to key airway muscles during sleep, allowing you to breathe normally, and more importantly, sleep without a mask, hose, or machine.
Proven Procedure
The device is placed under the skin of the neck and chest during a short, outpatient procedure. After healing, the device is turned on and you’ll be ready to get the sleep you’ve been dreaming of.
How it works
A hypoglossal nerve stimulation device (e.g. Inspire) sends a gentle electric pulse while you sleep, causing your tongue to move forward. This keeps your airways open, allowing you to breathe normally during sleep.
The process
After meeting with our doctors to determine your eligibility, our ear, nose and throat specialist will complete a thorough assessment of your airways. If you’re a good candidate, a short surgical procedure is scheduled to place the device under the skin of the neck and chest. Soon after the procedure, you’ll return to have the device turned on and fine-tuned to your body.
Physician services are provided by Atlantic Medical Group.
How to qualify
Our doctors will work with you to determine eligibility, but you might be a candidate if you:
Have moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea
Are 18 years old and over
Are not significantly obese
Have been unable to use or get consistent benefits from CPAP machines
