Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), sometimes referred to as a three-dimensional mammogram, is a diagnostic tool that can detect small breast tumors, while decreasing false positives and the need for repeat mammograms.

Benefits of 3D Mammography

DBT uses an X-ray to take multiple digital images of the breast in just seconds. This allows radiology specialists and breast imagers at Atlantic Health System Cancer Care to examine the tissue in small slices with enhanced clarity and detail. Smaller tumors that would otherwise have been difficult to assess can now be identified in earlier stages, improving survival rates.

Patients who may benefit from DBT include those who are at high-risk for developing breast cancer and/or have a history of needing follow-up diagnostic mammograms after a routine, annual screening.

3D mammograms may vary by location. Please confirm when booking an appointment.
