About me

Alexander Pronko, MD, is a fellowship-trained pulmonologist and critical care specialist with Atlantic Medical Group. Board-certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he has clinical expertise treating patients with a wide variety of conditions that affect multiple organ systems. Dr. Pronko strongly believes that empathetic, compassionate patient care is the hallmark of clinical excellence, and strives to be an advocate for each of the patients that he encounters. His experience with pulmonary function testing and cardiopulmonary exercise testing, combined with his ability to perform a variety of pulmonary procedures including diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, pleural and critical care-related procedures, allow him to diagnose and treat a wide range of pulmonary diseases and conditions.

After earning his medical degree at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Piscataway, NJ, Dr. Pronko performed his internal medicine residency and pulmonary and critical care fellowship at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York, NY. Named the chief fellow in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care, Dr. Pronko was heavily involved in medical education, designing and executing a multiple lecture series in critical care for incoming first-year fellows as well as delivering large and small group instruction and simulation in pulmonary/critical care to medical students in all phases of training. He also joined the interstitial lung disease clinic, facilitating a multidisciplinary panel of experts designed to enhance diagnosis and recommend state-of-the art treatment options for patients.
Dr. Pronko’s passion for learning has led to multiple publications in peer-reviewed medical journals as well as presentations at national conferences. Driven by his experience with interstitial lung disease patients, he served as an investigator/researcher into the biological mechanisms that regulate inflammation and fibrosis in the lung. Furthermore, he has led projects involving critical care triage and end-of-life care and has recently written a textbook chapter on how aging affects lung disease. His insights have helped him to hone his clinical expertise in the treatment of pulmonary patients of all ages. Dr. Pronko is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
