Benjamin Kuritzkes, MD, is a colon and rectal surgeon with Atlantic Medical Group specializing in the treatment of disorders of the lower gastrointestinal tract. He is board-certified in surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery, and in colorectal surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He has completed advanced fellowship-level training in colon and rectal surgery as well as anesthesiology and critical care medicine.
Dr. Kuritzkes’ practice focuses on the surgical management of colorectal disease including cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, and anorectal conditions. He endeavors to find the best individualized treatment plan for each of his patients, often employing a multidisciplinary approach to maximize treatment success, quality of life, and survival. The recipient of the prestigious Gold Award for Humanism and Excellence in Teaching from Columbia University, where he has been an assistant professor of colorectal surgery, Dr. Kuritzkes has a deep understanding of how clinical excellence must be combined with compassion and respect to provide optimal patient care. He is skilled in minimally invasive surgical techniques, and uses laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, and trans-anal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) whenever indicated, providing benefits of a shorter recovery time and a faster return to normal activities. His research interests include methods of reducing surgical infections and managing fluid resuscitation during surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, and the Society of Robotic Surgeons.
Dr. Kuritzkes earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University, and his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training and pursued fellowship training in anesthesiology and critical care medicine at New York Presbyterian, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, followed by fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
