Federico A Steiner, MD

Federico Steiner, MD, is a board-certified thoracic surgeon at Atlantic Medical Group, Morristown Medical Center, and he is the chief of Thoracic Surgery at Overlook Medical Center. With extensive expertise in thoracic surgical oncology, he takes a multidisciplinary approach, collaborating closely with medical and radiation oncologists to ensure each patient receives the highest-quality, comprehensive care.

Dr. Steiner is board-certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and specializes in robotic-assisted and minimally invasive thoracoscopic procedures. He incorporates the latest technologies, including intraoperative molecular imaging, to help identify small tumors and treat complex diseases within the chest cavity, including cancers of the lung and esophagus, as well as conditions affecting the trachea, mediastinum and chest wall. He also performs a range of procedures, including hiatal and paraesophageal hernia repairs, hyperhidrosis surgery and esophageal and airway stenting, ensuring patients benefit from the most advanced and effective surgical care available.

Known for his calm and compassionate approach, Dr. Steiner takes the time to listen, respond to questions and explain health issues in a way patients can easily understand. Knowledgeable and attentive, he applies his exceptional surgical skills and more than 25 years of experience to help patients heal and move forward following treatment. He is also dedicated to teaching residents and medical students, sharing his expertise and passion for advancing the field of thoracic surgery through education and mentorship.

Dr. Steiner earned his medical degree from New York University Grossman School of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at New York University Medical Center. He also completed two years of surgical oncology research fellowship at the National Cancer Institute, focusing on lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and mesothelioma. He has consistently been named a “Top Doctor” in numerous publications, including Jersey’s Best magazine, New York magazine, and Castle Connolly Top Doctors. He is fluent in Spanish and is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
