About me

Gennaro Giustino, MD, is a board-certified interventional cardiologist with Atlantic Medical Group (AMG) specialized in the minimally-invasive treatment of coronary and valvular heart disease. Dr. Giustino cares for patients with a wide range of heart conditions. In addition to performing percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), he has a particular expertise in minimally-invasive procedures to treat structural heart diseases including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve repair and replacement (e.g. MitraClip procedure), transcatheter tricuspid valve repair or replacement (e.g. EVOQUE procedure), left atrial appendage closure (e.g. WATCHMAN procedure) and transcatheter treatment of adult congenital heart disease (e.g. patent foramen ovale or atrial septal defects). Furthermore, he has expertise in managing patients suffering from life-threatening cardiogenic shock requiring the use of percutaneous mechanical cardiocirculatory support devices. Recognizing that he often meets patients in challenging moments, Dr. Giustino combines cutting-edge treatments and technologies with compassionate and human whole-person care to ensure comprehensive support. He speaks English, Italian, and Spanish.

After being named valedictorian (first-ranked student) and graduating summa cum laude from the School of Medicine of the University of Rome in Italy, he completed his internship and Italian medical license examination at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan. Then, Dr. Giustino moved to the United States to complete his residency in internal Medicine, cardiovascular medicine fellowship and interventional cardiology fellowship at the Mount Sinai Hospital, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. During this time, he was named chief cardiovascular fellow under the leadership of Dr. Valentin Fuster. Prior to joining AMG, Dr. Giustino completed an advanced fellowship in structural heart disease and mechanical cardiocirculatory support at Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan. He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, interventional cardiology, echocardiography and cardiac computed tomography.

Dr. Giustino has published multiple book chapters and more than 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts in the field of interventional cardiology and structural heart disease. He has also participated in the inception, design and conduction of multiple randomized controlled trials and registries resulting in publications in the most prestigious journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) and Circulation, among others. He is also routinely invited as faculty at international conferences and as a peer-reviewer for leading scientific journals. Dr. Giustino is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
