Leena Y Shah, MD

Leena Shah, MD, DABOM, is an endocrinologist with Atlantic Medical Group (AMG). She is board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in obesity medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine. She has clinical expertise treating patients with a wide variety of endocrine conditions.

Dr. Shah is the recipient of numerous awards for her outstanding contributions to clinical care, teaching, and research. She has extensive experience in the management of diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, pituitary and adrenal disorders, hypogonadism, polycystic ovary syndrome, and transgender medicine. In addition, she has a special interest in the medical management of obesity and is on the Atlantic Health System Weight Management Program committee. She enjoys working with patients to make long-term changes to improve their health by preventing or managing conditions associated with obesity. Dedicated to delivering the highest quality patient care, Dr. Shah works in partnership with a multidisciplinary clinical team to achieve the best results for her patients. She has worked collaboratively on several research studies examining diabetes and most recently on a study investigating pituitary tumors. She has also contributed to book chapters on lifestyle medicine approaches to insulin resistance, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and diabetes complications, as well as on patient-reported outcomes in Cushing’s syndrome. She is an active member of the Endocrine Society, the American Diabetes Association, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the Obesity Society. Dr. Shah earned her medical degree at Stony Brook School of Medicine, Stony Brook, NY, during which she also participated in a global health initiative in Panama, Central America, providing free acute and preventative health care services to indigenous populations. Dr. Shah completed her internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY, and pursued a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and bone diseases at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, NYC. She is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
