Maithili V Rao, MD

Maithili Rao, MD is a senior health entrepreneur board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is affiliated with Advanced Care Oncology and Hematology Associates (ACOHA), part of Atlantic Medical Group (AMG). Dr. Rao is a recognized healthcare entrepreneur and physician leader with a vision to deliver personalized, integrated, high-quality cancer care within the community setting. Over the course of her career, she has built one of New Jersey’s premier oncology networks across six counties, expanding to more than 30 practitioners across multiple locations and delivering over 165,000 patient encounters annually, including more than 30,000 infusion treatments.

Dr. Rao currently serves as Enterprise Medical Director, Physician Enterprise - Growth & Integration for Atlantic Medical Group, where she leads strategic growth, physician alignment, and clinical integration initiatives across oncology and specialty care. She is also a member of the Medical Executive Board at Overlook Medical Center and has played a pivotal role in transforming cancer care in northern New Jersey into a comprehensive, multidisciplinary oncology program that rivals leading academic centers in New York City.

A recognized leader in oncology innovation, Dr. Rao has championed a holistic, patient-centered approach to cancer and blood disorder treatment. Under her direction, oncology sites have integrated palliative care, genetic counseling, dietitians, nurse navigators, social workers, onsite laboratory and pharmacy services, advanced molecular testing, infusion therapy, and access to clinical trials - ensuring coordinated, personalized, and high-quality care close to home. She treats all forms of cancer and blood disorders, with a particular clinical focus on breast cancer.

Dr. Rao is a frequent national speaker and an active supporter of hospital and community fundraising efforts, including the American Cancer Society, which honored her as a Medical Honoree in 2022. She has also been named a New Jersey Monthly Top Doctor for 15 consecutive years (2012–2026) and was honored with the 2026 NJBIZ Health Care Heroes Award, recognizing her leadership, innovation, and longstanding commitment to advancing cancer care. These recognitions reflect her dedication to clinical excellence and compassionate, patient-centered care.

Dr. Rao completed her fellowship in Oncology and Hematology at the University of Rochester and has been a New Jersey resident for more than two decades.
