Marc Mandel, MD, FACS, is a surgeon specializing in general surgery, breast surgery, and surgical oncology with Atlantic Health Partners (AHP). Board-certified in surgery with a subspecialty in surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery, he has more than 30 years of experience admitting, evaluating, diagnosing, consulting, performing surgical procedures, and providing pre-, intra-, and postoperative care to patients of all ages to correct or treat various conditions, diseases, disorders, and injuries of the alimentary tract, skin, soft tissues, breast, endocrine system, head, neck, and vascular system. He assesses, stabilizes, and determines the disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services. He is dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care to all patients and ensuring they are educated about their condition and treatment.
Dr. Mandel obtained a BA in biochemistry and studio fine arts from Brandeis University, Waltham, MA, and subsequently received a master in physiology from Georgetown University, Washington, DC. He earned his MD at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York, and performed his surgical residency at Yale University, New Haven, CT, where he served as the administrative chief resident.
Remaining at Yale as full-time faculty, Dr. Mandel was an assistant professor of surgery and acting chief of trauma during the Gulf War. He also had a joint appointment in the division of surgical oncology where he was mentored by several prominent oncologic surgeons in a variety of disciplines, among them breast, GI, and pancreatic surgery. Dr. Mandel has held several leadership roles over his career and is currently the director of surgical education and chief, division of general surgery. He is also the cancer liaison to the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Mandel also manages an ongoing practice that includes a variety of areas of surgical oncology, including the breast and the gastrointestinal tract, among others. He is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncologists. In keeping with his training as an academic surgeon, he has been clinical faculty at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, as an assistant professor of surgery since 1992. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
