Matthew Hewston, DO

Matthew Hewston, DO, is a pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist with Atlantic Medical Group. Board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and fellowship-trained in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine, he is skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of chronic and acute pulmonary conditions.

Dedicated to improving the lives of patients coping with breathing disorders and illnesses that compromise pulmonary function and impact sleep, Dr. Hewston provides diagnosis, treatment, and a plan of management for patients, working cooperatively with other specialists to provide optimal patient care. In the area of sleep medicine, he is skilled at interpreting a variety of sleep studies, including polysomnography tests and wakefulness tests. With his training in osteopathy, he takes a holistic approach to managing conditions affecting the respiratory system which can be physically and emotionally overwhelming. Dr. Hewston strives to build trust with patients and families with his warm and caring demeanor. He has collaborated on research in sleep medicine and topics in pulmonology and presented at professional medical conferences. He is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American Osteopathic Association.

After earning his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, PA, Dr. Hewston completed his residency at Allegheny Health Network, Pittsburgh, PA. He pursued fellowship training at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center, MI, in pulmonary and critical care medicine, and sleep medicine. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
