Dr. Memon's clinical and research interests are broadly focused on understanding neonatal gut metabolism, liver function, and the important relationship between the gastrointestinal tract and the liver. She leads clinical projects to characterize the dysregulation of the gut-liver axis in newborns receiving prolonged parenteral nutrition and to identify biomarkers of neonatal liver disease. She also investigates cellular pathways associated with the dysregulation of bile acid and lipid metabolism in animal models of prolonged parenteral nutrition.
Dr. Memon is also actively involved in the utility of point of care devices in determining free, unbound bilirubin.
She uses her expertise in this area to educate residents, medical students, nursing staff, pharmacists, and nutritionists on these topics at lecture series hosted by Goryeb Children's Hospital. Dr. Memon is also an active member of the Neonatal Intestinal Rehabilitation Team (NIRT) at Goryeb Children's Hospital, a multidisciplinary group that helps manage the care of infants with prolonged intestinal failure and short bowel syndrome, and assists with their transition to outpatient care.
