Richard P Mackessy, MD

Dr. Richard P. Mackessy MD is board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with added qualification in hand surgery, specializing in hand and upper extremity conditions, including sports-related and overhead athletic injuries.Dr. Mackessy completed his medical education at the University of Bologna in Italy and New Jersey Medical School. He completed general surgery and orthopaedic surgery residency training at St. Vincent’s Hospital and St. Luke’s–Roosevelt Hospital, followed by fellowship training in hand surgery at Thomas Jefferson University. He serves as an attending orthopaedic surgeon at Overlook Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway, Trinitas Hospital, and is affiliated with Linden Surgical Center. A Fellow and Board of Councilor of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Mackessy has held numerous leadership roles and has been recognized as a Top Doctor in New Jersey for multiple years, as well as twice being named Teacher of the Year by the UMDNJ Department of Orthopaedics.
