Rita C. Burns, MSN, APN, FNP-BC, is a nurse practitioner with Atlantic Digestive Health Institute. Licensed by the State of New Jersey as an advanced practice nurse and board-certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, she utilizes her skills in the diagnosis and treatment of issues related to the digestive tract.
Rita works collaboratively with specialists in gastroenterology to provide optimal care and support to patients and families, helping them lead active and healthy lives by managing gastrointestinal conditions. Her comprehensive care includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, follow-up and education for numerous conditions including GERD, colon cancer screening, diverticulitis, abdominal pain, and nutritional counseling.
Understanding the challenges presented by diseases of the intestinal tract, Rita is dedicated to empowering individuals and providing health counseling and education to help minimize complications and restore normal daily living. Her passion and drive for the best outcomes is personal. At the age of 17, she lost her father to pancreatic cancer. Rita has previous experience working within both clinical research as well as surgical oncology, with a specific focus on gastrointestinal diseases and cancers.
After earning a bachelor of science degree in nursing, Rita then earned a master of science degree in nursing, both at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, NYC. During nursing school, she was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation scholar. She is fluent in Spanish. Rita is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
