Shazad Shaikh, MD

Shazad L. Shaikh, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, with a subspecialty certificate in Sports Medicine. He is currently practicing with Atlantic Medical Group. He has clinical expertise treating professional athletes, and other patients ages 13 through adult, with a wide variety of orthopedic injuries. His clinical interests include sports injuries, shoulder and knee arthroscopy, knee ligament reconstruction, meniscus tears, rotator cuff tears and cartilage restoration.

Dr. Shaikh earned his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook, NY. He spent an additional year after residency to pursue a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX, to concentrate on the diagnosis and treatment of athletic injuries. While in Houston, he had the opportunity to work with various professional teams including the Houston Texans, Astros, Rockets and Dynamo. He also had the opportunity to provide treatment for astronauts at the Johnson Space Center and for athletes at the 2016 NCAA Final Four.

Further, Dr. Shaikh’s extensive experience includes previously serving as head team physician for the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders, a Minor Baseball League Triple-A affiliate of the NY Yankees, as well as assistant team physician for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, a Pittsburgh Penguins American Hockey League affiliate. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and has coauthored several publications and presentations on various orthopedic surgery and arthroscopy sports medicine. Dr. Shaikh is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
