Timothy O'Sullivan, MD

Timothy O’Sullivan, MD, is a fellowship-trained sports medicine physiatrist with Atlantic Medical Group.

Board-certified in both physical medicine and rehabilitation and sports medicine by the American Board

of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, he cares for adolescents and adults with acute and chronic

musculoskeletal injuries and has specialized training in nonsurgical treatment for sports-related injuries.

He has extensive experience developing and disseminating educational material on complex medical

literature to ensure that his patients understand their injury and treatment thoroughly.

Dr. O’Sullivan is skilled in ultrasound-guided injections of the shoulders, hips, and knees including the use

of corticosteroid and viscosupplementation injections for arthritic joints. The use of ultrasound to guide the

gel-like injections allows Dr. O’Sullivan to see the needle moving in the tissue for more precise placement.

Additionally, ultrasound-guided injections have been shown to be less painful, since the physician can

visualize the bony structures as well as surrounding structures to avoid any unwanted complications.

After earning his medical degree at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ, Dr. O’Sullivan

remained there to complete his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation in conjunction with

Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. He then went on to complete advanced training with a fellowship in

primary care sports medicine at Atlantic Sports Health in Morristown, NJ, where he worked with many local

high school, collegiate and professional level sports teams including Seton Hall University and the New

York Jets.

Dr. O’Sullivan is an active member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the

Association of Academic Physiatrists, two professional medical societies through which he has given

academic presentations at national conferences. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable

Care Organization.
