William Rafelson, MD, MBA, is a fellowship-trained hematologist-oncologist with Atlantic Medical Group (AMG). Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he has a focus in the management of advanced genitourinary cancers (cancers arising from the bladder, urinary tract, kidney, prostate, or testes), and treats a range of hematologic and oncologic disorders. He believes in providing compassionate care and uses a shared decision-making approach in tailoring the right treatment regimen, whether that is chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or immunotherapy to treat the patient’s disease.
After earning his medical degree at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Camden, NJ, Dr. Rafelson completed an internal medicine residency at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Providence, RI, served as a National Institutes of Health (NIH) T32 post-doctoral research fellow at Rhode Island Hospital, also in Providence, followed by fellowship in Hematology/Oncology, again at Warren Alpert School of Medicine. He also holds an MBA from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA. Prior to joining AMG, he served as assistant attending in the Solid Tumor Genitourinary Oncology service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Middletown, NJ, and served on the inpatient genitourinary service in Memorial Hospital in New York City.
The author of multiple publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, Dr. Rafelson has also written several chapters in medical textbooks, including Ferri’s Clinical Advisor. He won a National Research Service Postdoctoral Award from the NIH and was one of just 15 medical oncologists nationally to be selected for a Rising Star Award from Castle Connolly. He was selected as one of “Jersey’s Best” medical oncologists in 2022 and 2023.
Prior to joining AMG, Dr. Rafelson served as Instructor of Medicine and, later, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University, New York City, teaching first- and second-year medical students. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Oncology and the American College of Physicians. He attends the MSKCC Annual Hematology-Oncology Review as well as ASCO annual conferences yearly to apply the most up-to-date information in his specialty. Dr. Rafelson is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
