We understand the unique challenges women face and have specialized programs targeted for specific stages of a woman’s life to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Cardio-obstetrics

Women with a pre-existing heart condition have an increased risk of complications during pregnancy. Our complications during pregnancy. Our multidisciplinary team combines the expertise of cardiologists and maternal-fetal medicine specialists. Together, we provide pre-conception counseling and comprehensive care for pregnant women experiencing cardiovascular symptoms or with known heart conditions. Our team offers support at every stage; planning and coordinating care during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum.

Cardiovascular health after preeclampsia

Preeclampsia and other adverse pregnancy outcomes significantly increase future risk of cardiovascular disease in women and even increase future cardiovascular risk in their baby. Our team has designed this program to identify women at risk of cardiovascular disease and help to educate and manage them to decrease the risk of heart disease in their families.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD)

SCAD is a form of heart attack that occurs in mostly young women with no traditional cardiovascular risk factors; often caused by an emotional, physical or hormonal trigger. We have designed this program with a team of experts to coordinate specialized treatment and care for SCAD survivors.

Menopause clinic

Menopausal hormone therapy can be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease in some women. Our heart experts collaborate with women’s health specialists to provide evidence-based care to help women find the best and safest treatment option for their unique situation(s).

Well-women screening

Our heart experts provide comprehensive and advanced cardiovascular screening focused on women and their unique risk factors. We help guide appropriate screening tests and create health and wellness planning for every phase of their lives.

Sports cardiology for women

Female athletes are at risk of various conditions that may have potential adverse cardiovascular effects. We provide specialized care and risk assessment to treat female athletes.

Women with health inequities

Aside from traditional risk factors, social determinants of health affect the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. Language barriers, discrimination, poor health literacy, limited access to health care and limited financial resources disproportionately affect women of under-represented races and ethnicities. Our program aims to bridge care gaps and treat a diverse population of women.

Microvascular disease

Women with health inequitiesMicrovascular disease is more common in women. Women with this condition may have blockages or dysfunction of the small vessels of the heart that are not easily detected in common cardiac testing. Many women with this condition do not receive a proper diagnosis and may experience poor outcomes. We have designed a specialized, multimodality pathway with protocols for women for detection and diagnosis of small vessel/microvascular disease.

Cardio-oncology

Breast cancer treatments may increase the risk of women developing heart disease. Our heart experts work in partnership with cancer experts to mitigate and assess cardiovascular risk in current and former cancer patients, to manage and treat the cardiovascular effects of cancer and its treatments.

Peripheral vascular disease

Individuals with blockages in the arteries of the arms, legs and branches of the aorta, known as peripheral vascular disease, are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular death. Women in particular are often under-diagnosed and under-treated. Our comprehensive program educates, screens and treats women with these conditions and focuses on lowering their risk of cardiac disease.
