Two Atlantic Health System hospitals ranked in top three in New Jersey by U.S. News & World Report

Atlantic Health System: The Only Health System in New Jersey with Two Hospitals in the Top Three

Morristown, NJ, July 29, 2025 – Atlantic Health System announced today that two of its hospitals, Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center, have been ranked in the top three in New Jersey, by U.S. News & World Report in its 2025-2026 Best Hospital rankings. These rankings topped off dozens of honors bestowed upon all of Atlantic Health System’s medical centers this year. Morristown Medical Center ranked as #2, and Overlook Medical Center ranked as #3 in NJ, making Atlantic Health System the only health care system in NJ with two of its hospitals in the top three.

This year Morristown Medical Center has increased its number of national rankings in Adult Specialties from four to five. Headlining the way, Morristown Medical Center’s Orthopedics program is once again the highest ranked in New Jersey (#16); and is also the best hospital for Gastroenterology and GI Surgery in New Jersey (#38). Other national rankings Morristown received are Urology (#32), Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery (#40 tied), and new this year, Diabetes and Endocrinology (#49). Morristown Medical Center is also the #9 ranked hospital in the New York Metro area.

Overlook Medical Center has climbed the rankings of New Jersey hospitals to #3 and came in 14th in the New York Metro area. Overlook was recognized as high-performing in five adult specialties: Gastroenterology and GI Surgery, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Urology, and Geriatrics.

Atlantic Health System’s CentraState Medical Center was recognized as high-performing in Urology, as well as in 4 Common Adult Procedures and Conditions: Heart Arrhythmia, Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma, Pneumonia and Stroke. Newton Medical Center was recognized as high-performing in Stroke.

Morristown was also recognized as high-performing in three Adult Specialties: Geriatrics, Neurology & Neurosurgery, and Pulmonology & Lung Surgery, and in 22 Common Adult Procedures and Conditions: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Aortic Valve Surgery, Back Surgery (Spinal Fusion), COPD, Colon Cancer Surgery, Diabetes, Gynecological Cancer Surgery, Heart Arrhythmia, Heart Attack, Heart Bypass Surgery, Heart Failure, Hip Fracture, Hip Replacement, Kidney Failure, Knee Replacement, Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma, Lung Cancer Surgery, Pacemaker Implantation, Pneumonia, Prostate Cancer Surgery, Stroke, and TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement).

Additionally, U.S. News & World Report recognized Overlook as high-performing in 14 Common Adult Procedures and Conditions: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Colon Cancer Surgery, COPD, Diabetes, Heart Arrythmia, Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Hip Fracture, Kidney Failure, Knee Replacement, Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myeloma, Pacemaker Implantation, Pneumonia, and Stroke.

U.S. News evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals across 15 specialties and 22 procedures and conditions as part of this year’s ratings and rankings with only 13% of evaluated hospitals earning a Best Hospitals designation. Hospitals awarded excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.

To determine the Best Hospitals, U.S. News analyzed each hospital’s performance based on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care. The Best Hospitals Specialty rankings methodology and Procedures & Conditions ratings methodology measure patient outcomes using data from over 800 million records of patient care.
