Atlantic Health celebrates longstanding trustee service to patients and caregivers

McCracken, Vice Chair Richard W. Herbst, Dr. John F. Vigorita, and Dr. Grant Parr.

Robert E. McCracken transitioned to the role of Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Trustees in May 2025, following four successful years as Chair. Since joining the Board in 2011, McCracken advanced Atlantic Health’s mission with a laser focus on quality and patient safety as Chair of the Board and its Governance and Executive Committees. Formerly Chair of Newton Memorial Hospital and the Newton Medical Center Advisory Board, McCracken is former owner and President of Smith-McCracken and Wood Funeral Homes. He proudly continues his service to New Jersey’s families and communities through his role on the Board of Directors of Provident Financial Services, Inc.

Thanks to his vision for the future of health care and unwavering faith in our workforce throughout his Board service, Bob lifted Atlantic Health to new heights.”
Outgoing Vice Chair, Richard W. Herbst, first joined the Atlantic Health Board in 2005. After briefly stepping away in 2017, he rejoined as a trustee in May 2018 and became Chair of the Board’s Audit & Compliance Committee in 2019. The President of the private investment firm, Roundtable Investment Partners, LLC, Mr. Herbst has supported the health system’s mission by contributing his expertise in finance and investment, mergers and acquisitions, and enterprise risk management. His insightful and proactive membership on Atlantic Health’s Executive and Finance & Investment Committees was bolstered by his former role as Managing Director at JPMorgan and 18 years as a Partner at Goldman, Sachs & Co.
John Vigorita, MD, MHA, FAAP, joined the Board in 2017. His service as a trustee included membership on the Governance and Finance & Investment Committees. His connection to the health system began many years earlier, when he completed his residency in pediatrics at Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center and founded Summit Pediatric Associates, launching a 30-plus year clinical career in support of our region’s children. Dr. Vigorita also contributed his talents as President of the Overlook Medical Staff, as Atlantic Health’s Medical Director of Mission Development and Chair of Bio-ethics Oversight, and as a member of the Overlook Foundation’s Board. His leadership of successful accountable care organizations, including Optimus Healthcare Partners and Vista Health System, has been instrumental to the creation of a broad network of high-quality physicians working together to improve patient care across New Jersey while reducing costs.
Grant Van Siclen Parr, MD, joined the Board of Trustees in 2017, 29 years after performing the first open-heart surgery at Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center. A board-certified thoracic surgeon, Dr. Parr performed two open-heart surgeries that day and went on to play an integral role in the creation of Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute, which today boasts the largest heart program in New Jersey. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Parr has helped to ensure the future of medicine through 18 years of teaching positions at Columbia University. His service as an Atlantic Health trustee included membership on the Board’s Quality, Medical Staff Leadership & Development, and Audit & Compliance Committees. He also devoted six years to supporting patients and caregivers by sitting on the Board of the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center. Dr. Parr’s active community engagement has seen him fulfilling additional roles as Vice Chair of the Morris Township Parks and Recreation Foundation and Trustee for the Land Conservancy of New Jersey.
