Pediatric Emergency Care

Pediatric emergency room

Atlantic Health System Children's Health provides 24-hour access to expert pediatric emergency care at the Gagnon Children's Emergency Department, located at Morristown Medical Center, and the Michael Gordon Reeves Pediatric Emergency Department, located at Overlook Medical Center. We treat more than 33,500 children each year for everything from minor emergencies, such as fever, ear infections, minor cuts and sprains, to life-threatening injuries and illnesses.

Our staff takes a patient- and family-centered care approach to medical  emergencies, which means fostering an open line of communication with patients and their families and including them as partners in the care process. We also collaborate with primary care physicians, ensuring that they are kept up-to-date on all diagnostic procedures and treatments we provide to their patients.

What’s more, our department believes that an environment that focuses solely on the needs of children relieves some of the anxiety of an emergency visit for both the parent and the child. Our exam rooms are colorfully decorated and equipped with TVs and DVD players, and we have child life specialists on-hand to help ease the fears of our patients and make them feel more comfortable.

I am writing to thank the staff at Morristown Medical Center for their unbelievably compassionate care and high level of expertise when my son was taken to the Emergency Department and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Every staff member we encountered was wonderful."
