Wait times represent the average estimated length of time from registration to being assigned a "first provider" (a doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant). Times displayed for Atlantic Health Systems are:

  • Reported as an average of wait times for the previous 2 hours of patients that have presented to the emergency department and have been seen by a provider
  • Refreshed at least every 15 minutes

Many circumstances can affect wait times - for example, patients arriving by ambulance or with life-threatening injuries or illnesses. Patients with severe conditions will be seen before those with less-serious problems or ailments. These times are provided for informational purposes only and cannot be guaranteed upon arrival.

Neuro Critical Care

Atlantic Ambulance Corporation’s Neuro Critical Care Transport team, in collaboration with Atlantic Neuroscience Institute, consists of specially-trained medical personnel, including a critical care nurse, a paramedic and an emergency medical technician (EMT). They provide medical air and specialty ground transport 24 hours a day, seven days a week to transport patients to Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center for the highest level of neuroscience care, including advanced interventions.

Ground transport can reach most community hospitals in Northern New Jersey within 45 minutes, and medevac air transport can reach most NJ hospitals within minutes.

Morristown Medical is home to a regional trauma center and the most severely injured patients may be brought to us by ambulance or helicopter. Patients may also be transferred by ambulance to Overlook Medical.

We house a 29-bed unit for neuroscience patients, as well as a 10-bed Neuroscience Critical Care Unit for patients recovering from stroke, brain surgery, seizures, nervous system infections, head trauma and spinal surgery. Our nurses are certified in neuroscience nursing care and attend extensive ongoing training and re-certification programs. This unit is consistently ranked highly by Press Ganey for patient satisfaction and our nurses are rated by our patients as exceptional.

“My husband was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and admitted to your neuro ICU where he received the most outstanding care. Every nurse, every doctor, every technician, treated us with the utmost kindness and respect. Their kindness to me is something I will treasure for a lifetime.”
