Our practice
Our highly-trained rheumatologists combine physical examinations, medical history and sophisticated immunologic and imaging tests to achieve a quick and accurate diagnosis. We work closely with other specialists to diagnose, treat and manage rheumatic and autoimmune diseases for adults.
Some of our services are provided through Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center and Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center, and include an infusion center, laboratory and radiology, and various other services as needed to help with your medical care.
Rheumatic diseases
Rheumatic diseases are a group of more than 100 disorders that cause arthritis and other painful conditions of the muscles, bones and other tissues. While more than half of all people aged 65 and older have some form of arthritis, these conditions can affect young and old alike. Some rheumatic diseases are very serious, and may be difficult to diagnose and treat, but many appear in mild form and respond extremely well to treatment.
Autoimmune diseases
Autoimmune diseases refer to problems with the immune system’s reactions to an individual’s own tissues. In an autoimmune reaction, antibodies or immune cells can attack the body’s own healthy tissues by mistake, causing damage or loss of function. Autoimmune diseases can affect almost any part of the body, including the heart, brain, nerves, muscles, skin, eyes, joints, lungs, kidneys, glands, the digestive tract and blood vessels.
Conditions we treat
Some rheumatic and autoimmune diseases can be difficult to identify in their early stages. Our rheumatologists are trained to recognize the symptoms and make a correct diagnosis so that appropriate treatment can begin early.
Conditions treated include:
- Inflammatory arthritis – including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (Lupus)
- Sjögren’s syndrome
- Scleroderma
- Vasculitis
- Polymyalgia rheumatica
- Osteoarthritis
- Osteoporosis
- Myositis
- Gout and pseudogout
Defining the disease is the necessary first step, in order to implement an appropriate and precise treatment plan. Our board-certified rheumatologists combine detailed physical examinations, careful history and sophisticated immunologic and imaging tests to achieve a quick and accurate diagnosis. Many of these same tests may be useful later for monitoring the disease or the effectiveness of treatments.
