Atlantic ACO Named Among Becker's 100 Accountable Care Organizations to Know

September 20, 2014

Morristown, NJ – The Atlantic Accountable Care Organization was recently named among the 2014 list of “100 Accountable Care Organizations to Know” by Becker’s Hospital Review, one of the health care industry’s leading publications.

This is the third year Becker's Hospital Review has published its list of ACOs to know, and the number of organizations to choose from has grown each year: There are now more than 625 ACOs in the nation. This year, the editorial team selected ACOs for inclusion based on the number of physicians involved, covered lives, the lifespan of the ACO, whether it has contracts with multiple payers and whether it recently struck new payer agreements.

The Atlantic Accountable Care Organization, which is owned by Atlantic Health System and The Valley Health System, is one of the largest ACOs in the nation. The ACO’s provider network is comprised of more than 1,700 primary care physicians and specialists who coordinate care and are accountable for quality, cost and patient satisfaction for the health care they provide. Its member hospitals include; Chilton Medical Center,  Morristown Medical Center, Newton Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center and The Valley Hospital, serving Bergen, Morris, Sussex, Passaic, Somerset, Union, and Warren counties. The Atlantic ACO cares for over 175,000 Medicare and commercial insurance enrollees.

“We are proud of our success in improving wellness and managing costs for the more than 175,000 enrollees and beneficiaries in our ACO and look forward to continuing our expansion to enhance care for patients,” said David Shulkin, president, Atlantic Accountable Care Organization. “We are honored to be recognized for the combined efforts of our ACO physicians, hospitals and allied health organizations.”

Becker’s first recognized the Atlantic ACO in 2011, when the magazine included it on its list of “10 ACOs to Know,” shortly after the ACO first formed, and was included in the “100 Accountable Care Organizations to Know” last year.
