Great Place to Work® and Fortune Name Atlantic Health System as one of the 100 Best Workplaces For Millennials in the U.S.

June 15, 2015

Atlantic Health System, one of the largest health care organizations in New Jersey, has been named by Great Place to Work® and Fortune as one of the 100 Best Workplaces For Millennials in the country. The parent organization of Morristown, Overlook, Newton and Chilton Medical Centers and Goryeb Children’s Hospital and Atlantic Rehabilitation was ranked 16 on the list, making it the highest-ranked NJ-based company on the list, the highest-ranked health care organization on the list, and the only NJ-based hospital system on the list.

In just 10 years, millennials will make up 75 percent of the workforce. To compete for top talent and ensure their long-term success, businesses must prepare to appeal to and engage this unique generation of employees. At Atlantic Health System, millennials already comprise more than 4,300 of the organization’s more than 14,000 employees.

“Unlike generations before them, millennials seek a more mobile, immediate and personalized experience when it comes to their health care,” said Atlantic Health System President and CEO Brian Gragnolati. “We believe they will be vital to helping Atlantic Health System redefine access to health care for everyone we serve.”

Atlantic Health System and the 99 other winning companies were selected based on the evaluations of nearly 90,000 millennial-aged employees who were surveyed using the Trust Index©, Great Place to Work’s employee assessment survey. The 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials is part of a series of rankings by Great Place to Work® and Fortune based entirely on employee surveys from published Great Place to Work® Reviews.

“Companies focused on solid growth understand that it’s critical for senior leaders to have an in-depth understanding of all their employees’ experiences, regardless of their age, role in the organization, or any other demographic profile,” says Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work® United States. “Great workplaces are constantly monitoring and analyzing their employees’ workplace experiences and then taking action to improve them. Ranking on this list is a great indicator that these companies’ efforts to create great workplaces are resonating with millennials.”

Atlantic Health System has been recognized seven consecutive times by Fortune in its annual “100 Best Companies to Work For®” list. That recognition has been driven, in part, by the numerous programs put into place to develop and enhance their professional skills and careers as well as their personal lives and well-being.

“An important part of recruiting top talent is to create a positive workplace environment that complements the many age groups which comprise our workforce,” said Andrew Kovach, Vice President, Human Resources and Chief Administrative Officer, Atlantic Health System. “For millennials, we have worked to develop a workplace that acknowledges their strengths, while also providing opportunities to advance in their careers at Atlantic Health System.”

Among the professional development programs, Atlantic Health System offers both a mentorship program as well as a nursing externship program, in which younger employees are able to learn directly from more seasoned co-workers.

Atlantic Health System also offers tuition reimbursement and education assistance that helps cover the cost of higher education and the organization has forged affiliations with local colleges and universities to provide discounts to employees and to hold courses on-site at our Atlantic Health System facilities.

Programs geared to employee’s well-being include day care and maternity benefits, as well as adoption assistance. Atlantic Health System also offers discounts to fitness centers throughout New Jersey and on other health and fitness products. View the entire list

About The Best Workplaces for Millennials 2015

The 100 Best Workplaces for Millennials is a “best of the best” ranking. The winners come from the universe of companies with published Great Place to Work Reviews, meaning they are serious about creating a great workplace and comfortable with transparency. These companies either have proven to be great workplaces—earning a spot on the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For® list or the Best Small & Medium Workplaces list—or are dedicated to improving their cultures as shown by their willingness to survey employees and publish the results. Of the 465 companies with published Reviews recently surveyed using the Trust Index© Employee Survey, 315 surveyed at least 50 employees under age 35. Almost 90,000 millennial-aged employees from these companies completed the survey and answered 58 questions about how frequently they experience the behaviors that create a great workplace. This resulted in a total score for each company based entirely upon employee feedback.  The Great Place to Work® Best Workplaces for Millennials 2015 ranking includes the best 100 companies ranked by these millennials’ scores.
