Morristown Medical Center Recognized as One of ‘America’s Best Hospitals’ for Cardiac, Orthopedic & Joint Replacement Care

October 18, 2016

Medical Center Named to “Best 50” List for Cardiac Surgery, and “Best 100” List for Cardiac Care, Orthopedic Surgery and Joint Replacement

October 18, 2016, Morristown, NJ – Morristown Medical Center today announced it was recognized by consumer healthcare ratings group Healthgrades® as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals™ for Cardiac Surgery, and one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals in the Nation for Cardiac Care, Orthopedic Surgery and Joint Replacement. The medical center was the only hospital in New Jersey named to the ‘America’s 50 Best Hospitals’ list earlier this year.

In addition, the medical center was recognized with 19 additional quality and clinical recognitions in specialties including gastroenterology pulmonology, bariatric surgery, and critical care. These achievements, from the Healthgrades 2017 Report to the Nation, mean Morristown Medical Center outperforms other hospitals in the nation in these categories.

“We are pleased that the patients, families, and communities that rely on Morristown Medical Center for their health care have further evidence of our daily commitment to quality and safety measures,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, president of Morristown Medical Center. “Any time that a patient and family comes to the medical center, it can be an unsettling time. This national recognition helps patients instill trust and confidence in our medical and clinical staff as they continue to deliver exceptional patient care.”

For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide, assessing hospital performance relative to each of 32 common conditions and procedures, as well as an evaluation of comparative outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 18 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
