Noted Author, Educator and Grief Counselor to be Keynote Speaker at Overlook Medical Center Caregivers Event

January 26, 2016

January 26, 2016, Summit, NJ – The Thomas Glasser Caregivers Center at Overlook Medical Center presents, “Healing Your Grieving Heart: Exploring practical touchstones for caring for yourself,” on Tuesday, February 23 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the hospital’s Bouras Auditorium, 99 Beauvoir Avenue.

Noted author, educator and grief counselor, Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D., C.T., is known to thousands across North America for his inspirational teaching gift.  His compassionate messages about healing in grief, based on his own personal losses, as well as supporting children, teens, adults, and families over the last three decades, speaks not only to the intellect, but the hearts of all who hear him.

“We are honored to have Dr. Wolfelt as our guest and delighted to offer his insight and expertise to the larger community,” said Marian Teehan, L.C.S.W., coordinator, Thomas Glasser Caregivers Center at Overlook Medical Center.  “We know first-hand that there is a great need to open the discussion about grief.  Whether your grief is new or long-term, this lecture will be of benefit to anyone.”

Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt is the founder and director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition (www.centerforloss.com), in Fort Collins, Colorado and a faculty member of the University of Colorado Medical School’s Department of Family Medicine. He is known throughout the U.S. and Canada for his educational contributions in the areas of both childhood and adult grief.

In addition to presenting dozens of keynotes and workshops across North America each year, Dr. Wolfelt is a popular media resource who regularly provides his expertise to many top-tier television shows, newspapers, and magazines. He is also the author of more than fifty bestselling books on grief and loss.

The Thomas Glasser Caregivers Center provides a tranquil environment dedicated to helping caregivers effectively manage the stress and special needs associated with caring for a critically, chronically, or terminally ill loved one.  The Center brings caregivers away from the alarms, bright lights and hectic pace of the clinical care setting; yet, not too far away from the patient so that family members can easily return to the bedside if their presence is needed.  A licensed clinical social worker and skilled volunteers provide resources and emotional support, while the space offers room for rest, private discussions, counseling, therapeutic services, such as massage and art therapy, and community support groups.

The “Healing Your Grieving Heart” program is free, but reservations are required by calling 908-522-6348.  Complimentary parking is available in the West Garage across from the hospital’s main entrance.
