Atlantic Health System Awards Grants to Help New Jersey Communities Live Healthier

June 2016, Morristown, NJ – Atlantic Health System, a leading health care delivery system in New Jersey, is funding $325,000 in community projects and improvements designed to promote healthier living throughout numerous communities. Now in its second year as part of the New Jersey Healthy Communities Network, a funding collaborative, Atlantic Health System is providing this support to 13 organizations in communities served by the health care. These grants will support local organizations in making sustainable changes that help communities to support active living and better eating in their communities. Each two-year grant is $20,000 with an additional $5,000 toward technical assistance and evaluation.

Atlantic Health System is the only hospital system donor in The New Jersey Healthy Communities Network, and funds the second-largest number of communities after the New Jersey Department of Health.

Through The New Jersey Healthy Communities Network, we are able to create meaningful partnerships with community groups and provide grants that range from creating access to affordable fruits and vegetables to providing opportunities for physical activity options at all ages.”

  • Meadowlands Transportation Brokerage Corporation -Plainfield
  • Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges- Sussex County
  • Northwest NJ Community Action Program, Inc.
  • Rutgers’ Center for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis - Rutgers University
  • Township of Hanover
  • The Gateway Family YMCA- Elizabeth
  • United Way of Passaic County

The New Jersey Healthy Communities Network brings together local, regional, and statewide leaders to support communities in developing healthy eating and active living through enhancement of the built environment.  A collective impact model ensures that grantees, funder, and advocates are aligned in their work to build healthy environments for people to live, work and play.

Since its inception in 2013, the signature community grants program of New Jersey Healthy Communities Network has awarded over $1.86 million in grants.  This year, the Network awarded $860,000 to 43 organizations.
