Atlantic Sports Health Provides Sports Medicine Service to Now- Co-Ed College of Saint Elizabeth Division III Athletes

New Athletic Trainer to Develop Comprehensive Care Management Program

September 15, 2016, Morristown, NJ – As the College of Saint Elizabeth’s welcomes male students for the first time, Atlantic Sports Health, New Jersey’s leader in the diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries, today announced it will provide enhanced sports medicine support for the College’s male and female Division III athletes.

Under this agreement, Atlantic Health System, one of the largest non-profit health care organizations in New Jersey, will manage the College’s orthopedic and sports medicine needs, pre-participation evaluations, and other medical services when necessary.

In addition, the partnership also provides the College with a full-time athletic trainer who will help establish and grow the College’s new co-ed athletic department. Michael Pawlusiak, ATC, a certified athletic trainer most recently employed by Rutgers University’s athletic department, will serve as the College's new head athletic trainer and help develop its sports medicine program.  

“We are looking forward to this enhanced partnership which will provide our students with excellent care,” said Juliene B. Simpson, director of athletics for the College of St. Elizabeth. “The sports medicine physicians and athletic trainers from Atlantic Health System have expertise in diagnosing and treating athletes, and we look forward to watching how they optimize our athletes’ performance and increase our victories.”

Atlantic Sports Medicine has been providing the College’s athletic department with sports medicine services for the past three years. Damion Martins, MD, Director of Sports Medicine and Orthopedics for Atlantic Health System, will continue to act as the College’s Medical Director, and Dean Padavan, MD, will continue to serve as the school’s team physician for medical needs on and off the field.

“We are thrilled that the College of Saint Elizabeth’s chose Atlantic Sports Health to support its sports medicine needs as it transitions its already robust athletic program to co-ed,” said Martins. “Our high-quality, patient-centric care will improve the athletes’ outcomes and performance, and ensure their health and safety on and off the field.”

Atlantic Health System owns and operates a hospital system, including five acute care hospitals and related health care facilities staffed by physicians and other medical professionals that provide emergency room, inpatient, outpatient, physical therapy and other medical services, including sports medicine services.
