November 8, 2017

Innovative, New Center Features Combined Pediatric Emergency and Hospital Care Services

November 8 2017, Pompton Plains, NJ – Atlantic Health System’s Chilton Medical Center recently celebrated the grand opening of The Children’s Center in Pompton Plains with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring hospital leaders, physicians, staff, donors and community members.

“The Children’s Center is one of the most anticipated, and certainly one of the most exciting projects we have undertaken at Chilton Medical Center,” said Stephanie Schwartz, President, Chilton Medical Center. "Every detail of this Center has been considered to ensure we provide the best environment for the more than 13,000 children we care for annually. Our partnership with Atlantic Health System also ensures families within our local communities are afforded the highest quality pediatric care.”

This ribbon cutting event also celebrated the donors who contributed to the Chilton Medical Center Foundation's successful Major Gift Initiative, which raised more than $600,000 to support construction of the Children’s Center.

"To finally see the project come to life has been truly wonderful," says Amy Hershman, Chilton Medical Center Foundation trustee and chair of the hospital's Major Gift Initiative. " The Children’s Center is truly a unique place for children to get well. Our success would not have been possible without the community members, foundations, corporations, and hospital employees whose charitable contributions helped make this Center a reality, and most notably the Chilton pediatric physicians and Foundation Board of Trustees, who gave 100% participation to the project.”

Located within the hospital, the new Children’s Center offers an innovative model of care by combining both pediatric emergency services and inpatient hospital care in one, family-friendly facility. The Center, which is the only of its kind in Northern New Jersey, offers a dedicated entrance,11 private emergency treatment rooms and inpatient suites as well as special touches to foster healing and reduce anxiety such as in room skylights and sleeping accommodations for parents.

Children’s Center physicians and nurses specialize in pediatrics and are equipped to handle all types of childhood emergencies and illnesses, from minor injuries to more serious medical conditions that require an overnight stay. And, because Chilton Medical Center is part of Atlantic Health System, it offers ready access to all the resources and advanced care, including more than 100 pediatric specialists, at Goryeb Children’s Hospital at Morristown Medical Center.
