At Atlantic Health System, we offer specialized programs that diagnose, treat and manage rheumatic and autoimmune diseases. Our programs also work closely with other health care professionals in assisting patients who require additional pain management, surgery or other services to treat their conditions.
Rheumatic Diseases
Rheumatic diseases are a group of more than 100 disorders that cause arthritis and other painful conditions of the muscles, bones and other tissues. While more than half of all people aged 65 and older have some form of arthritis, these conditions can affect young and old alike – from 2 to 92. Some rheumatic diseases are very serious, and they’re often difficult to diagnose and treat, but many appear in mild form and respond extremely well to treatment.
Autoimmune Diseases
Autoimmune diseases refer to problems with the immune system’s reactions to an individual’s own tissues. In an autoimmune reaction, antibodies or immune cells can attack the body’s own healthy tissues by mistake, causing damage or loss of function. Autoimmune diseases can affect almost any part of the body, including the heart, brain, nerves, muscles, skin, eyes, joints, lungs, kidneys, glands, the digestive tract and blood vessels. Our highly trained medical teams work together so patients can live their lives to the fullest. Physician services are provided through Atlantic Medical Group >
